HATIS Corporation and The Canadian Hearing Society Form Strategic Alliance to Provide Assistive Communications Technology Solutions to Canada

Walnut Creek, CA – August 21, 2001 – HATIS® Corporation, announced today the formation of a strategic alliance with The Canadian Hearing Society (CHS). HATIS is a privately held Assistive Communications Technology (ACT) solutions provider, offering Hearing Aid Telephone Interconnect Systems (HATIS) to hearing aid users to enable effective telecommunication. Under the terms of this alliance, CHS has been selected by HATIS as an authorized HATIS distributor in Canada.

For individuals wearing hearing aids, HATIS provides a line of products to be used in conjunction with a hearing aid and telephone. All HATIS products are developed with a patented induction technology, which transmits audio signals directly to the hearing aid, eliminating the need for increased telephone or hearing aid amplification.

Through the alliance, HATIS and CHS will provide ACT solutions to their clients with hearing aids throughout Canada. CHS will provide services and recommendations regarding the line of HATIS telecommunications products to its clients at each of its 27 area and regional offices, while HATIS will provide advanced ACT solutions. By utilizing CHS’ programs designed for the hard-of-hearing and communication-improvement solutions, HATIS and CHS will be able to provide increased job access and opportunities to hearing aid users previously unable to communicate effectively with a telephone. Also, many hearing aid users unable to use certain ACT or Assistive Listening Device (ALD) solutions in the past due to cost or availability will now have an affordable and accessible solution.

"Together with CHS, HATIS will be able to build a bridge to the wireless revolution for hearing aid users across Canada," said William L. Morgan, CEO of HATIS Corporation and a HATIS user. "With HATIS products, the interference many people with hearing aids found before is virtually eliminated and those with severe hearing loss who could not benefit from increased telephone amplification will have a newfound clarity. Using a cellular phone will no longer be a challenge for hearing aid users, it will be a reality."

“CHS is excited to have HATIS as a part of our team,” said Kuldip Grewal, CHS Manager of Hearing Aid & Technical Devices Programs. “Through the line of HATIS products, CHS will now be able to offer Canadians with hearing aids a key to the wireless telecommunications world, along with a wealth of job opportunities they did not have access to in the past.”

"Forging this partnership with CHS provides the first step in reaching hearing aid users worldwide," said Alice M. Morgan, President and founder of HATIS Corporation. "HATIS’ product capabilities, together with CHS’ far-reaching promotional efforts of independence-enhancing services, will help individuals with hearing aids communicate and compete more productively in every aspect of their lives."
