HATIS
Corporation to Donate “Freedom” to World Trade Center and Pentagon Survivors and
Rescue Personnel Suffering Irreparable Hearing Loss
Walnut
Creek, CA—September 25, 2001—HATIS® Corporation, announced today
it will donate Freedom Hearing Aid Telephone Interconnect Systems to all employees
of and rescue personnel at the World Trade Center and Pentagon suffering hearing
loss from the attacks on September 11, 2001.
HATIS Corporation develops
Hearing Aid Telephone Interconnect Systems (HATIS) for hearing aid users to enable
clear, interactive communication between hearing aids and telephones. The Freedom
is developed with a patented technology that transmits audio signals directly
to the hearing aid, eliminating the need for increased telephone or hearing aid
amplification. The reduced need for amplification plus direct transmission of
sound from the telephone to the hearing aid provides The Missing Link to eliminating
sound distortion and electromagnetic buzzing. It is this condition hearing that
aid users find most incapacitating when using modern telecommunications devices.
“HATIS may be thousands of miles away from where the attacks took place,
but our hearts and prayers are with these victims everyday,” said Alice M. Morgan,
the company’s President and Founder. “As Americans and as an American company,
we too, wanted to give our support to these victims in any way possible. In the
months ahead, both survivors and rescue personnel may be suffering irreversible
hearing loss due to the explosions and buildings collapsing. For people who find
they can no longer hear without a hearing aid, HATIS would like to give them the
tool they need to use that hearing aid with a telephone and not experience distortion
or other electromagnetic interference naturally caused by the electronic interaction
between aids and phones. That is why we are donating the Freedom to all survivors
and rescue personnel suffering hearing loss from the attacks. We know that in
donating the Freedom we will not heal these victims completely, but we would like
do to our part in supporting them through this horrific tragedy and help ease
their sense of suffering in any way possible.”
William L. Morgan, HATIS’
deaf CEO and HATIS user said, “Although I will never fully understand the true
enormity of the events that unfolded in New York City and Washington, D.C. like
the people who work there, as a business person with profound hearing loss, I
do understand the frustrations and limitations a hearing impairment puts on the
working individual. It can have a detrimental affect on your ability to provide
a high level of productivity at work and many survivors and rescue personnel may
find not only their job, but also their education, experience, and skills slipping
away simply because they can no longer hear on the telephone. As our country begins
to rebuild and move on, so must these survivors and rescue personnel. They will
have many challenges ahead of them in all aspects of their lives, but we want
to make sure not being able to hear on the telephone isn’t one of them.”
